Blow Your Speakers, With Rock n' Roll !

Well well...

Ok. So, now we have all 14 songs in mix NO 2. We have been listening hard for a couple of days and hopefully by the end of this week we will gather our thoughts about the whole shebang.

It's kinda hard work to digest the sound of 14 songs and be analytic at the same time, especially when you have the classic "M.O.B stew" consisting of both snappy and kinda easy listening hard rock songs, but also some of the meanest, hardest, no mercy metal songs that we have ever recorded.

Stay tuned, stay metal. We're getting there.

Don't Worry, Be Happy!!

The mixing process is finally back on track again!! Yeeehaa!!

Before mr mixer left for the road he gave us a test mix cd with 10 out of 14 songs
that we have listened to now for a few weeks, and we must say that we are pretty happy with the result except for a few minor hickups, It sounds *hit hot. :-)

The band will get together next friday for a drunken evening at my place and hopefully we'll have the whole album by then. Discussions about the song order and stuff like that will be on the agenda that evening i suppose, pheeew. :-)

The Greatest Enemy is lurking in the shadows, waiting to be unleashed.......

What To Do On A Rainy Day!

Even though we are a bit frustrated in our time of waiting right now, we took the opportunity and went through a rainy photo session sunday afternoon. It was cold, windy and fun. :-) Katrina Määkinen was behind the camera once again.

All Good Things Comes To Those Who Wait, bla bla... :)

Due to reasons that just can´t be resolved, the mixing process will now stop for approx 3 weeks, and that means that "The Greatest Enemy" will not be ready until after new year´s. The band will however get a taste of what the album will sound like later this week and so, we will listen good during those weeks.. Of course we´ll post a comment here regarding our thoughts of the mix, and you might get to see some cd artwork here also when we feel the time is right.

All the best.

Setting The Record Straight...!

So, setting the record straight here,,,,,,,"The Greatest Enemy" project has left the M.O.R.S studio, and is now in mixing mode, in the safe hands of Fredrik Folkare. It will now be a couple
of weeks before we get the project back and we'll have a listen to it all. In the meantime, as stated below, stuff is oozing in the background, and we will keep all those things updated here.
Right now we are trying to finalize the final artwork, with all that goes with it, credits, liner notes, and a first for M.O.B, the complete song-lyrics. This is the place the cover for TGE
will be premiered, so there You go, Stay Tuned !

Over and done!

I think i might have mentioned that before a couple of times in this blog, but since we are turning the whole project over to the mixing wizard now, i guess we ARE done, huh? A kind of scary feeling, ha ha..

The band got together tonight, for a couple of last minute vocal add-ons and i must say that it was truly my softest low key effort on this album and it turned out quite nice, it´s not that often that i get to sing in that style. We also fixed a couple of drum tracks, a guitar fill or two, and spoke a bit about our feelings regarding the pre-mix cd. The general feeling is that we are quite happy with the result of the hard work that we all have put in, especially Peter (take a bow man, your the best, without your passion for the project, this would have taken forever).

I think this blog will go on in one way or another, now its time to start thinking about the other aspects of the project. Gigs, promotion, design, yada yada, what have you. We´ll keep you in the loop.

Conny left a bit early, so here´s just 3 happy fellas!

Catcha later people, check in from time to time.

In The Meantime...!

So,,,,what's happening right now,,? Well, "The Greatest Enemy" is recorded, and is now being examined back and forth by the band members, before handing the project to the mixing wizard who is Fredrik Folkare. While we are waiting, things are slowly beginning to move out there. Check out the new December issue of Fireworks Magazine.
Here You get a brief interview with Rick, and on the free CD that goes with the magazine, is "Scapegoats"! In the can is a more extensive feature, and maybe some brand new M.O.B music on the next CD/issue in January! So, before You get the lo-down of TGE's destiny this coming weekend, check this out! http://www.rathole.com/fireworks/

We Gotta Get Out Of This Place!

Hey there rock n rollers.

I went in with Peter today, picked up my notes containing the new chorus for "Eye of the beholder", nailed it, and if the other guys approve of it, im DONE. If all goes as planned, we will hand over the project to the magnificent Fredrik Folkare very soon now and we are pretty confident that he will deliver the goods behind the mixing table, just as he did the last time. But before he gets to do that, Conny is up for one final bass session come sunday, and after that, we will all sit down for a couple of days, listening hard, to see if we find anything else that we want to change (God forbid)..

Kind of fed up, ha ha..

All the best. /Fredrik

Yeeeeeehaaaaa!!

After many hours of trial and error I finally recorded a solo this afternoon on my problem child "Human Nature".. I also re-did some guitarfills and the solo on "Behind The Wall" and ended the day fooling around with my "bottleneck" on "Back On Track"..

As always, I know I can do better, but sometimes you also must know when to stop.. I´ll let the lads decide, as usual..

Nothing more for me to do, guitar-wise, on the record.. Maybe a polish here and there, after the lads had their say, but I can´t believe I´m actually done.. :-P

So now It´s up to Conny to re-record some of the bass-tracks and then It´s actually time to mix this baby.. !!!! Can´t wait to say the classic phrase: "-I´m proud now It´s out... "

Crazy Nights!

Oh my god... Pete and I had a fun but also a horrific evening in the studio tonight. First off, we spent several hours vocally remaking bits and pieces of the song "Back on track", and the result became quite different from the original vocals in the end. After finishing that one, we dug deep into each and every song, looking for stuff that wasn´t to our satisfaction. Finally, we came across a real bummer as we listened to "Eye of the beholder". It contains (as it sounds today) in my opinion, one of the absolute worst, boring, mundane, tedious, worthless choruses that I have have ever written melodywise. Soooo, that chorus HAS to be rewritten, there´s no doubt about that. Im gonna get started on the task tomorrow.

As for the remaining stuff that awaits to be recorded, there´s one guitar solo, a few rhythm guitar things, a couple of bass tracks that has digital distortion in them AND my new upcoming chorus..

Will we ever see the end of this? ;-)

Cheers. /A TIRED Fredrik

Le Gitarra Acoustice Le Fleu Un Fique...

Today It was time for me to record some acoustic guitars. Rick and Roge´ went along to coach me. The result was some additional parts on both "Stone Cold" and "Human Nature".
And before we called it a day I recorded a kind of baroque-sounding piece that actually I wrote back In my early teens.. It´s a song that that have been dear to me, all these years.. Just me and my guitar.
Until next time....

A Work Of Art

Tonight me and Conny spent time with finalizing the artwork
for "The Greatest Enemy", or at least the basic design and
pictures to be sent to the layout-people we will endorse.
Even though we took a zillion pics at the last session it's been
worse than hell to select a good pic of the band, where we can
at least be 80-90% sure each on what we think is a good photo.
But tonight we settled for a picture, and some layout. It will rule :)
Coming up this weekend is the final (?) guitar sessions for Pete,
probably 2 songs need new bass-tracks, Fred will sing the last
few lines of the song "Back On Track", then we are ready to
enter mixing mode. It's getting closer,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, /Rick

Ebony And Ivory

Today was a great day in the studio. Jörgen Schelander from Mercury Fang joined us to record some keyboards, and he delivered with honor. A big thanx to Jörgen for contributing and making TGE a very special album for us, and hopefully for you out there.. :) Roger, the amazing trooper was as usual with us to document the happening and helping out whenever technical problems would occur.

No more sessions are scheduled for the upcoming week, but next weekend you´ll probably find at least Pete back in the dungeon again..

Jörgen in action..

Rick felt that he wanted to play some "bones" as well, but the result will never be heard or discussed in public ever, period... ;-)

Update From The Weekend Warrior..

Well, waddaya know.. After the latest guitarsession I thought I only had one more solo to do, but discovered that there´s a part on the song "In love" that I had completely forgotten. So this afternoon I fiddled around with that one.

The solo I recorded last time for the song "Human Nature" got all thumbs down from the lads, and I can do nothing but agree... (the picture shows the expression on the lads faces when I played It for them) It didn´t fit the song or the mood at all and I tried to work some more on that one today, as well.. I actually got myself a bottleneck and tried to play some slideguitar, but no matter how I approach the song, everything I did sounded like a copy of the "Stargazer-solo" on Rainbow Rising. So that one remains yet to be done :-(

Tomorrow, we´ll be having a special guest in the studio. None the less but Jörgen Schelander, keyboardplayer from Mercury Fang. So stay tuned folks!! It´s gonna be a blast..

I Am The Eggman!!

Or maybe not me, but Richard sure is.. :-) He played those eggs tonight like his life depended on it. Lots of eggs on the album, nice nice nice. Funky Metal Extravaganza!

Besides that, the evening really contained a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I recorded some short vocal stuff on a couple of songs, Peter Recorded some guitar fills and harmony guitar..

It really feels like the end of the journey is finally starting to stare us in the face. We have a few more evenings to go but in a couple of weeks, everything that will end up on the album will be recorded and done. Who knows, this might be the ultimate christmas gift of the year!!

Have a splendid weekend metalheads, see ya next week!! (Peter might check in during the weekend, you never know when he pops into the studio to lay down some nice icing on the cake that will become "The Greatest Enemy"..)

Take care! /Fredrik

Tuesday Afternoon...

.. and tiny Pete´s been busy again.. Left work after lunch and headed down to the studio to record the solo for the last song remaining. It´s not a coincidence I saved this one for last.. A kinda problemchild for me. This song "Human Nature" hasn´t got many chord-changes where I´m supposed to play lead, and I really need chord-changes to play around, or else I´m lost. So this one´s really a challenge. After 4 hours, trying out different aproaches, and with a growing headache, I finally got something on tape... At least a demoversion of the solo. We´ll gather in the studio on Thursday to do some more work and I´ll present my idea for the boys then..

Weapons Of War

Today It´s been a beautiful day. In other words - a perfect day to spend in the studio ;-) Recorded some more guitar-solos and now there´s soon really nothing much left for me to record, guitar-wise.. And most of the backing vocals have also been recorded so we´re actually getting in the stage to rap things up! But we have yet a surprise or two to announce, so stay tuned...

Yesterday, It was Mr. Bassman´s birthday so HAPPY BIRTHDAY C.G!!

Just Another Heavy Metal Day...

Today It´s been raining cats and dogs. In other words, a perfect day to work some more in da studio. Roger came along to document some more for the upcoming "Making Of-DvD". I recorded two more guitarsolos for the songs Who Are You and In my Dreams, and now I´m eager to have the boys give their verdict.

If you look real close at the picture, you´ll find that the guitar-cord seems to be plugged into my .... We´ll the camera caught me this time. That´s really the secret behind my meaty guitarsound.. ;-)

See Ya!!!

Scream Until You Like It!!

Background vocals, background vocals, and some more backing vocals..

This evening´s festivities started with a listen to Peter´s guitar solos that he recorded during the weekend, and it just blew me away... :-D All thumbs up!! Ol´Pete is my fave guitar player in da whole world and he delivers the goods with perfection.

After that, i re-recorded the verses for "In my dreams", Richard soon showed up and we were ready to make some noice.. I spent most of the evening in the control room and was quite happy doing that. Conny came along after a while and the whole band had a generally good time as the three stooges (Conny, Peter and Richard) wailed away while they recorded backing vocals for "Behind the wall", "Inside the fire", "Anger Management" and a couple of more songs.

A productive but still a relaxed evening, nice..

More guitar solos coming up this week i hope. Cheers! /Fredrik

The Shreddin´ Continues...

Today, I´ve spent the whole afternoon in da studio to record some more guitarsolos... Redid the solo for "Behind The Wall" because the lads, after listening to what I´d done previously, thought that that I could to better. Rick gave me a hint on a melody that I should work on, and I did. It made me think "Outside the box" and it´s now a completely different solo, compared to the original one, and I think this one is gonna fit the song better. It´s melodic, powerful, majestic and beautiful with loads of harmony-guitars.
Then I worked on the song "Stone Cold". It´s a funky/groovy kinda tune and I played around with my wah-wah-pedal.. The result, to me at least,
is pure rock´n´roll with a of WTS-kind of feel to it.

I ended todays session by finishing the solo on "Inside The Fire". The result became a kinda oriental-sounding thing. I don´t know the name of the scale I´m playing, but as I said.. think oriental/egypt/asian.. kind of Blackmore-ish..

I´m keeping my fingers crossed that the lads will approve.

Next week, we´ll gather to lay down some more harmony-vocals and I´ll get the verdict from the three stooges on this days session..

All the best!!

/Pete

White Trash Stomp !

Tonight was really a night of screaming and stomping!
The whole band gathered to lay down some nice
screaming background vocals.
The song called "In My Dreams" will feature
some heavy marching army feet, and we really stomped our
hearts out, trying to capture the raw power of an army strong!
Then we yelled through the night, 3 songs were done, and
a late night finally came to an end. Stay tuned...

The Greatest Enemy Photo Session !

Tonight we went far away from the studio with photographer
Katriina Mäkinen, and our mission to get some nice pics to
use for the cover of TGE and future promotional work.
Over 200 pics were taken, and are now under strict
consideration to be picked out for future use.
Here is one pic though, probably not going to be picked,
so get a hold of this rare item :)

Let The Shreddin´ Begin !

Today, Roger and I went to the studio to start recording some guitar solos. I tweaked the guitar sound for a while, and started working on the song "Behind The Wall". After running through the song a couple of times I finally recorded a solo that I´m quite pleased with. Even Roger approved. It contains both melody and some hammer-ons. The latter´s something I haven´t done in years. Later this week we´ll be recording some backing vocals with all the lads gathered in the studio. It´s kind of a busy week so I don´t know if I´ll have the time to record some more on my own.

See Ya!!

When All Is Screamed And Done!

It feels kind of weird/nice/sad..

With the help of Peter I recorded my last corrections regarding lead vocals for "The greatest Enemy" last night and I consider myself pretty much done now. We are waiting for one more possible guest vocal appearance on one song and if that one works out, i guess ill have to redo some stuff on that song, we´ll see.. Next week its time for the whole band to show up and record some barking backing vocals, and this upcoming weekend, Peter might be in the studio recording some blistering guitar solos. Have a nice weekend ya´all!

Ace Of Bass

Conny and I went to the studio this friday, and listened to all the bass tracks he´d recorded previously. We felt we could improve the sound on some song so we re-recorded a couple... More vocals and perhaps o guitarsolo or two later on this week.

Until next time..

(Finally) Over The (Vocal) Mountain!

Oops, double post regarding yesterday, aaah, what the heck, i´ll give my version anyhow.

It was a great day for me yesterday as the last lyric was finally in place! Sure, ill have another day or so in the studio, adjusting some hickups, but it feels good to have the whole picture in front of me so to speak. We recorded vocals for "In my dreams" and "Life" yesterday and the former feels like it will be a quite spectacular piece of metal in the end and the latter has a nice groovy feel to it, classic M.O.B-style if you ask me, lets get down baby!

As usual, a huge thanks to Peter for coaching me. That poor dude is bound to spend more time in the studio than anyone else, working with me, with Conny and with his own efforts, here´s to ya mate!!

He and Conny will be in there tonight, to do some adjustments regarding the bass tracks. I dont know right now when its time for me to do some polishing, but i guess it will be sometime next week.

Like the Terminator said: I´ll be back!

Have a splendid weekend!

/Fredrik

Metal Gods...

This evening was a very productive one... Fred and I joined forces and finished vocals on the two remaining songs on the record, and what can I say... Listening to Fred singing tonight was awesome... He´s DA MAN!!!!!!!! Later on, Conny came by with an 8-string bass guitar to re-record some songs.. To qoute Black Sabbath´s epic album "MOB RULES".. When you hear this one.. You will agree.. We do....

Rock And Roll All Nite !

OK, not all night, but it sure was some nice rock'n'roll blasting in the studio tonight. Peter and I went deeper into to my list of small changes before turning our attention to "Anger Management", a song that I haven´t been very impressed by. Up until now that is, ha ha. The first version of the lyrics that I wrote for this song were misplaced, (yeah, me in a nutshell, I know), and so I had to re-write them, and both the melody and the lyrics improved like hell!

Just as I started to record it, Rick arrived at the studio and from what I could tell, he kinda liked the result also. It sure has gone from the bottom of the songs right up to the top, at least for me. :)

Wow, what an artistic shot, huh?

We also added some stuff on "In Love" and I'm finally beginning to understand that I do NOT sing flat on this song, both Rick and Peter told me so. OK, I accept that, ha ha.

More vocals coming up on thursday, 2 more songs to go regarding lead vocals! Cheers.

Stingray - Delivering The Goods !

Conny is not a big fan of blogging, so I will just issue a short statement here for him. All bass-tracks were completed yesterday. Nice work man.

Tomorrow it´s tuesday, and its time for some pasta-free vocals! Yeehhaa!

Later.

Devil´s Food!

Well well, you learn something new every day. Last night didn´t feel very professional, ha ha. Peter and I got together pretty early and since none of us had eaten any lunch, we bought some take-away food with us to the studio.

I sat down and stuffed myself full of some sort of Spicy Pasta Bolognese. Then it was time to sing...... Oh yeah? Right. It didnt matter how much water I drank or for how long I sang, my voice sounded "fat, thick and greasy".. NEVER eat fat food before trying to sing, I learned that the hard way yesterday. Still we worked on minor changes on some songs that came out pretty good and we spent a good deal of time working on the little problem child "In Love". The chorus on that song contains "the chord from hell", its the weirdest chord Ive ever heard I think, and no notes I sing goes well with it, ha ha ha.

I had a fresh set of lyrics for "Anger Management" but my pasta drained throat didn't allow that kind of advanced recordings at all. Peter is out of the country this weekend so there will be no more vocals or guitars recorded before tuesday.

Until then, have a great weekend people!!

God Of Thunder..

This weekend Conny´s been buzy like a little bee. 13, of the 14 trackz, has been completed with a bass of thundering doom. And even though we have some more work left to be done, we´re actually beginning to see the end of this quite exiting journey.

Until next time, a huge metal hug from all of us to all of you.. :-)

United We Stand...

Tonight was the first time since we don't know when,
where all the 4 of us in the band gathered in the
studio at the same time. Very much was talked about
and decided for the future, and now the wheels will
roll a little faster. Not only stuff about the
recording was discussed, but also the www.mobrockz.com
website, which will be overhauled, and other stuff
concerning the band, like the cover for TGE ! :)
Conny will start laying down bass this coming weekend,
Roger will have the camera rolling, and Fred will
continue with lead vocals in the coming week.
Rick will be busy pushing "Read My Hips" which will
be released on Aug 27, while Peter will engineer for
Fred when his not recording guitar fills. So far so good!
Stay tuned...

Documentary Mayhem !

No band in the world would do any good without people
who helps the band, or believe in the band.
In our case we have a few close friends that we see
as close as almost a member of the band, like family,
who are always there with good advice and kind spirit,
always there to help.
In this particular case, it's not only a close friend,
but a brother, and even a ex-member of M.O.B!
The person we are talking about is Roger Averdahl,
pictured above, the man running around the studio
tonight, while Fred was singing and recording a new
stunning version of "When Death Gives", filming and
documenting the making of this new record. And when not
filming, being a computer wizard and unvaluable help!
Here goes a big HUG, and a big THANK YOU, for being the
good friend and supporter of this band called M.O.B !

More studio work to come, stay tuned...

Back In The Saddle!

Hey there all ya groovy metalheads out there!

It´s good to see that my partners in crime are already hard at work in the studio after almost a month of enjoying a well deserved summer break. Im quite excited about goin in thursday night and try to do some wailin´, although i have a feeling that the first session most likely will result in a sore throat. That´s what you get from not singing and spending your days and evenings laying on a couch. Shame on me!

Anyway, time to whip up the pace again now. Or as CRONOS would say: HELL YEAH!

See ya! /Fred

What We Did On Our Vacation...!

Hi teens! :) We*re back ! So, You think it has been quiet
in the M.O.B world during these last few weeks?
Nothing could be more wrong!
It's been actually some interesting stuff going on!
Well, let's start with Peter. He was exhausted, after all that work
he had done up til then in the studio, so he has been busy
doing nothing, on that godforsaken island, south-east of Sweden.
He truly deserved it. Today though, he actually called in,
saying he had returned to the studio, recording and
jamming away, so The Greatest Enemy is on the prowl again!
What about Fredrik? Well, he was exhausted too.
He has just been hanging around, focusing on everyday life,
and all that stuff that goes with it. Conny, You may ask?
Well, he has been very busy. First of all, Conny has been
in charge for the upcoming cover for TGE, along with a still
unnamed hero/photographer, and he has just presented his first
take on it, to the band. The reaction was, to say the least,
positive. It will be good. You will love it.
Also, Conny has been gigging, not only once or twice,
but THREE times this summer, as a stunt-bassist in a cover-band!
People who saw these gigs says Conny did an excellent job,
and we believe them, of course!
But what about Rick? Well, he has been busy too.
He has been VERY busy, designing, arranging and constructing,
the mighty CD-release of the very first M.O.B album,
"Read My Hips"! Yes, you read it right!
The official CD-release of "Read My Hips"
will be on August 27, and the album will contain no less than
5 (FIVE) bonus tracks! Stay tuned at www.mobrockz.com
for more info about this, OK?
Until next time, relax, pop a beer, and keep in mind,
M.O.B are back in the studio, and in a record store near You
very soon, with "Read My Hips".
And later this fall, "The Greatest Enemy"......
To be continued..........

Intermission

Howdy folks! Today Peter made a quick stop at the studio to record some more harmony guitars, and we're really pleased with the results! Since last time, all of us in the band have gathered, and given our individual thoughts on everything recorded. Even though much is still to be done, we have all four agreed we have something very special brewing here. Now though, it´s time for us to take a couple of weeks off and just relax. Peter is now off to join his family at Gotland (Swedens largest island in the middle of the Baltic Sea), look at the picture enclosed. It´s a kind of magic...

But what are the others up to, You may ask,,,,?
Well, who knows,,,,, :)

M.O.B wishes you a great summer vacation!!!!

See ya soon!!

Diary of Madmen

I hereby, proudly announce that I´ve now completed recording rhythmguitars (for the 4th time around:-/) on all songs.

Next up on the agenda is that we´ll sit down and listen to the songs individually and then gather to discuss guitarsounds, vocal-arrangements, to find out if we´re happy with the results, as they are, or if we want to re-do anything.

Stay tuned folks and remember.. Be safe out there..

A New Family Member To Kiss !

Tonight was scheduled to lay guitars on the songs "Back On Track",
and "Eye Of The Beholder". The latter song is a fast metal waltz,
but the former is a real metal epic anthem, and for this special
occasion Rick brought his all new Washburn Paul Stanley
PS-9 guitar to spice up the sound. As You can see we played
and toyed along with it really good, and the sounding result
will soon reach a boom box near You !
Until next time, Ride The Big One ! :)

It´s Been A Hard Day´s Night..

.. and I HAVE been working like a dog, and so has Peter. Lead vocals for 3 songs were recorded today. First up was "Back On Track" (That will hopefully feature special guest no 2) and that went splendidly. Next song to the vocal grinder was
"Stone Cold", a snappy little song that really smells of Peters classic M.O.B guitarwork.

Then came "Who Are You", pheeew.. It´s a tough song to sing but we pulled through eventually and Peter was a rock as usual as we traded ideas back and forth regarding the vocal arrangements. We cracked up a bit as we found out that my falsetto had a very distinct recognizeable sound. You know those old radios from past times where you as a kid could spend an afternoon twisting the knobs on the short wave band, receiving just crackles and whinings? Well, there you have it, ha ha..

All in all, a good day in the studio, and lots of work were done.

See ya. All the best. /Fredrik
